Yay. yet another Maddevill ride report with NO pictures....
So , got my bike back after complete fork rebuild, cartridges and springs put in, shock rebuilt and revalved. Got my son (2003 Z1000) and George ( Daytona 675) and headed for Alice's. New suspension works great. True bump handling with no chassis upset. Nice. After breakfast headed down 84 and onto Pescadero Rd. At the Cloverdale junction, we decided to switch bikes. George on mine, me on my son's, him on the Daytona. So we went less than a hundred yards Aaron pulls over. Stated that there is smoke coming up from behind the instrument panel on the Daytona. So, George pulls the fairing and we find the clutch cable had been sitting on the exhaust pipe. And the steering damper bolt had fallen out. George decides to head home. Re routed the cable. He leaves, immediately turns around commenting about more smoke. Took a closer look and found his rectifier plug completely melted and burning. We disconnected the stator leads and he headed home. Made it about 20 miles before the battery died. Meanwhile , Aaron and I went south to Davenport for coffee and croissants. Then a fast run up Pine Flat and Hwy 9 and back to Alices. Total of 175 miles. Bike worked great. SO great to be back on my baby. My son has turned out to be a very good rider. Although he claims he'll beat me on the track. So stay tuned for the Father/Son Track Smackdown on rented Ninja 400s soon.
